Shortly before a wedding the chatan and callah (bride and groom) are called to the Torah for an aliyah (aufruf is Yiddush for aliyah) to impress upon the couple the duty to look to the Torah as their guide in married life. After their aliyah, the rabbi offers a blessing for a sweet, successful and holy marriage.
