All of CSI’s Adult &
Family Education courses and programs are open to members and non-members alike. You will find a range from basic Jewish studies to Talmud and Trope, from intimate musical gatherings hosted by congregants, to a major concert with Debbie Friedman at CSI. Lectures and speakers include some of the most well known experts on the social and political scene. We invite you to read our brochure and register for as many classes as you wish to participate in.

10:00 AM - TROPE FOR THE TROOPS WITH CANTOR SHIOVITZ.
Ready to learn Torah Trope? Here’s your opportunity! Join the Cantor for eight lessons. Class dates are 10/14, 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 12/9, 12/16, 1/6, 1/13.
10:30 AM - ME’AH WITH DR. ROBERT HARRIS / TAMMY JACOBOWITZ
One again, CSI hosts this two-year course of study, through Hebrew College of Boston. Only a few spaces are still available. Interested? (*)This class has a separate fee structure. Contact Marge Wise for information. MWise@csibriarcliff.org

MONDAY
7:00 PM HEBREW I - WITH BETTE SLUTSKY
Have you been meaning to learn Hebrew “someday”? Make it this year! Join the hundreds of students who have learned Hebrew with Bette. Class meets six times, with a minimum enrollment of six students. Book fees are additional. Classes begin 10/15.
7:45 PM - BASIC JUDAISM WITH RABBI KANE
This course is designed to give the participants a firm grounding in the history, beliefs and observance of Jewish life. It is a program of study for non-Jews, their partners and, of course, Jews who also wish to learn more! (*) This class has a separate fee structure. See registration form. Classes begin 10/15.
8:45 PM - TALMUD WITH RABBI KANE
This year we continue our study of Masechet Sanhedrin (courts). Previous Talmud study or knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary! Classes begin 10/15.
TUESDAY
10:30 AM – WOMEN’S TORAH STUDY WITH RABBI JAN UHRBACH
We will begin our study with the book of Exodus, Chapter 8. As we encounter the Torah text and its commentaries, we will add our own voices and life experiences to those who have come before us in lively discussion about our relationships with each other and with God. New participants are always welcome!!

11:15 AM - JEWS IN THE NEWS WITH RABBI KANE
This is the 15th year of this interesting course that combines current events and conversation. Each week we read an article from a different periodical or magazine on subjects ranging from religious issues to exotic Jewish communities. If you want to keep up with what’s happening in the Jewish world, this is the class for you! Classes begin 10/9.
12:30 PM - YIDDISH CLUB
Learn and practice the Mamaloschen, schmooze and nosh! Twice a month – check the CSI bulletin for the exact schedule. NO FEE/ NO REGISTRATION.
7:30 PM - FIVE GREAT MORAL DILEMMAS IN JUDAISM WITH RABBI KANE
Each session of this monthly five - session class will explore one of the five most difficult moral problems that arise in the Bible: Am I my brother’s keeper? Should I sacrifice my son to God? Can I lie to my father and steal my brother’s birthright and still be one of the founders of the Jewish religion? How bad would it be if I worshipped an idol? Can I send my lover’s husband off to die in battle? We will explore Biblical text and the problems that each of these situations present.
Class dates are: 10/9, 11/6, 12/11, 1/8, 2/5, 3/4.
FRIDAY
RASHI ON THE TORAH PORTION WITH RABBI KANE
We will meet 30 minutes prior to Kabbalat Shabbat to study the comments of Rashi who is generally regarded as the greatest commentator on the Torah. Class will not meet on evenings when Shabbat Rocks/Family Night services are scheduled.

CSI Religious School invites you to join them for “Kristallnacht Remembered” with speaker, Ela Weissberger, holocaust survivor and author of the book The Cat With The Yellow Star – Coming Of Age in Terezin. There is currently a film documentary being made about Ms. Weissberger’s life and experiences. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to hear her story firsthand!
