For Seniors: There is always room at our table!
At CSI we are proud to be host to year-round FREE events designed specifically for senior members (65+) of the community.
HaMishpacha Luncheon: Formed in 1991 as a means for our seniors to get together, HaMishpacha is a group for couples and singles aged 65 and over. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month (September – June, holidays permitting!) to enjoy programs of a musical, cultural, educational or social nature. Our programs vary to include speakers on God and spirituality, Jewish art and Jewish life around the world.
At each program, a freshly prepared lunch is served at no charge. We have a very dedicated group of volunteers who cook, plan, shop and serve. No one ever leaves hungry! Our wonderful Caring Community generously underwrites the cost of lunch.
CSI is a young congregation with hundreds of students in our Religoius School and our Nursery School, so naturally, there is more programming geared to our children. We are proud to share that our HaMishpacha luncheons average 80 attendees. What makes this even more important is that many in our HaMishpacha group still work and don’t consider themselves senior citizens, but they arrange their schedules to be with us for this warm and spirited monthly gathering. Even in the dead of winter, when some are in warmer climates, we still have 60 people in attendance. When parents of our members are visiting from out of town, they often come to check us out.
HaMishpacha Discussion Group – Thanks to a grant from UJA/Federation, we recently expanded our program to include a bi-monthly Thursday morning current events discussion group with social worker, Shari Baum.
Yiddish Club – Another more recent addition is a twice monthly Tuesday afternoon Yiddish class, which seems to be growing at each meeting.
Check the CSI calendar for the monthly schedule. If you have questions or need further information, contact Ellen Johnson.
