Harvey Wiley Corbett was one of the architects who built Rockefeller Center. He was a Freemason who felt it was his duty to incorporate Masonic symbols into his designs. Solomon's temple is a very important symbol of the Freemasons. Corbett wrote that he  wanted to make modern recreations of the ancient wonders of the world. Obsessed with recreating Solomon's temple throughout his career, he tried to build Rockefeller Center as a modern recreation of Solomon's Temple.
