The Creation of the State of Israel

First Semester (October & November):

Israel/Palestine from 1453 - end of WWII
Background: 1914 Start of World War I and its impact upon the Middle East ending May 14, 1948. In addition, we will also cover: Hussein-MacMahon letter, Sykes-Picot Treaty, Balfour Declaration, Versailles Treaty, San Remo Treaty, growth of Jewish influence, the riots of 1929, Nazism in Germany, The White Paper of 1939, World War II, Zionist efforts in America. FDR meets the Saudi King Ibn Saud, British end the mandate of Palestine, U.N. establishes a divided Palestine, Truman recognizes an independent Israel.

Second Semester (January - March)

The Wars of Independence and Acceptance: 1948 - 1982
